During the Congress, Awarding ceremonies of the UIA Prizes and the presentation by the host country of the next congress will take place as well. And furthermore, various related programmes including symposiums, workshops and exhibitions will be held.

From a global standpoint, the world-leading architects and the representatives from various fields will give lectures in which the participants certainly can find significant suggestions for the future architecture and cities.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, two works in progress “Over the River, Project for Arkansas River, State of Colorado” and “The Mastaba, Project for United Arab Emirates”.
Christo lectures about two art works both of which in collaboration with Jeanne-Claude (1935-2009). “Over the River, Project for Arkansas River, State of Colorado” which they started in 1992 and is planned to be realized in August 2014 at the earliest and “The Mastaba, Project for United Arab Emirates” in Abu Dhabi which the artists have been working on since 1977.

Tadao Ando, a recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the Order of Culture, will make a lecture about what architecture is and what we should think about regarding the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Coordinated by young Japanese architects,both domestic and oversea speakers will discuss the sub-theme from global point of views,and consider the structure of society in the future.

Oral Presentation
The UIA2011 TOKYO Academic Programmes will provide a venue for the presentation of Research Papers, Design Works and Poster Session under the primary theme, “DESIGN 2050.” Especially Design Works is a new presentation at UIA2011 TOKYO.
The winners of the UIA2011 TOKYO Student Competition will make presentations of their proposals. Awards Ceremony will also take place after the presentations.
Representing the international community, 160 young architectural professionals and students will work together under the theme of “KIZUNA - agenda of Tokyo beyond 3.11 - ” to explore the new possibilities of architecture for the future.
Welcome Networking
This will be held on Day-1 prior to the Opening Ceremony. Attendants from around the world will be welcome in the most representative tower of downtown renewal project in Tokyo, where attendants may enjoy the panoramic view of the central Tokyo in the evening. Using state-of-the-art ICT devices, attendants will be welcome and networked to commemorate the events worldwide.
